Rudram 11 - Gauteng March 2025

On Saturday 22 March 2025, the ISKON centre in Midrand hosted the Rudram 11 event for March 2025. Devotees from across Gauteng gathered to recite the auspicious Sri Rudram to spread peace, positivity and healing to the surroundings and world at large.

In chapter 10 of the bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, "rudrāṇāṁ śhaṅkaraśh chāsmi..." this translates into, “Among the Rudras, I am Shankara (Shiva).”Krishna acknowledges that he is non-different from Shiva, highlighting their unity as manifestations of the same Supreme Reality. In general, there are are a few deep connections between Lord Krishna and the Sri Rudram:

Sri Rudram goes beyond forms—Rudra is seen as the immanent and transcendent being. Similarly, Krishna in the Gita reveals his Vishwarupa (universal form), suggesting that all gods, including Shiva, are within him.

Many saints and traditions (e.g., Saint Ramanuja, Adi Shankaracharya, and even modern-day Gurus) emphasise that Krishna and Rudra are aspects of the same Brahman—only different in the way devotees approach them.

A devotee of Krishna can chant Sri Rudram with reverence, just as a Shaiva (Shaiva, or Shaivism, is a major tradition within Hinduism that reveres Shiva as the supreme being) can recite the Gita. Ultimately, all lead toward realization of the Supreme Self (Atman), which is beyond name and form.

The Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita both state:

“Ekam sat vipra bahudha vadanti”

Truth is one; sages call it by many names. Rudra, Krishna, Narayana, Ishvara—all are aspects of the one Supreme Reality.
