Rudram 11 - Western Cape February 2025

On Sunday 23rd February 2025, the Jyothir linga Temple at the AUM Spiritual Centre in Cape Town hosted the second Western Cape Rudram 11 event for 2025.

During this Rudram 11 we were blessed to witness the Abhishekam while chanting the Sri Rudram.

The word Abhishekam can be broken up into, "Abhi, Se, Ekam" meaning, "right now You and I are one". The Abhishekam is a beautiful ritual and when witnessed and performed with the correct spirit, it becomes truly spiritual.

During the Abhishekam, various ingredients are offered, each carrying immesnse spiritual meaning. Some examples are:

Milk

Sacred milk given to us by Mother Cow, who represents mother earth. Milk is also linked with the heart of man, which should be an ocean of milk on which the Lord resides beautifully.

Curd

Curd is derived by adding sour water to milk. Even a small quantity of curd is enough to transform all the milk to curd milk. Milk represents human life and curd stands for the divine principle. When we start focusing on God slowly our whole life is transformed.

Ghee

Ghee is produced in 3 key stages. Curdling, Churning and Heating. The curdling represents the surrender phase. Afterwards comes the churning - symbolic of introspection, where we start enquiring about our True self. The last stage is the heating, the transformative stage. After this process what the devotee obtains is the Lord Himself.

We thank everyone who attended and offer a very special thank you to Guru Krishna and his family for hosting us and allowing us to be a part of this special prayer

Join Us Next Time

We welcome all devotees to join us for a very special Rudram 11 happening in Cape Town in March. The next Rudram 11 will be taking place at the Open Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. This is a unique time to come together to chant the Sri Rudram with our brothers and sisters of the Islamic faith in the sanctity of their Mosque. Not only this, but we will also be blessed to experience divine chants in Arabic - expressing the Greatness of the Divine. We are also invited to break fast with our brothers and sisters during Iftar with a special vegetarian meal.

We look forward to seeing you there
